Anxiety

ANXIETY IS SOMETHING YOU CAN DEAL WITH

You know what anxiety feels like - your heart starts to pound,
your palms sweat, and you feel very tense. These are normal
responses to stressful events or situations. But if you have an
anxiety disorder, such feelings can strike out of the blue and become
overwhelming and interfere with your daily life.

Stress and change can make anyone feel tense, but an anxiety disorder
is different. The first step in treating an anxiety disorder is to
 recognize that you have one.

General Anxiety Disorder is an overall fear that something is or will
go wrong. You constantly feel tense or on edge.

Panic Attacks are periods of overwhelming terror that seem to come
from nowhere. You'll break out in a sweat, gasp for air, and feel
your heart beat wildly. You may feel weak or dizzy and believe that
you are dying, or at least losing your mind.

Phobias are unreasonable feelings of terror when you have to face
certain objects, people, or situations from dogs to crossing bridges.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) causes you to repeat words,
phrases or patterns over and over again. Some people wash their hands
until they are raw because of a need to feel clean.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a reaction to a scary event or
experience. Symptoms include general anxiety, difficulty
concentrating being unable to enjoy people or activities you
once found fun, and nightmares or memories of the event that are
sometimes so real that you believe you are actually reliving it.

If you think anxiety plays too big a role in your life, contact us
and a counselor will be happy to discuss your concerns and identify
 resources that can help.
